Clinical Care Coordinator

The weeks after diagnosis can be a confusing and overwhelming time. Our goal is to provide families information about the service systems and help them put together a plan for obtaining treatments as soon as possible.

Please call our clinical care coordinator with any questions regarding:

  • Navigating the educational and healthcare systems
  • Information about resources at Stanford and the Children’s Health Council
  • Local community providers

Parent Education

There’s often a gap between diagnosis and the start of services. ESPA offers a short parent education program to help families get started with simple strategies for play and interaction. While not a substitute for treatment, this program helps bridge the gap between diagnosis and care. Each of the four sessions is one-on-one with an educator and one or both parents.

1

Session 1 - Overview

During this session parents receive general information about autism, as well as an introduction and outline for the parent education program.

2

Session 2 - Attention and Motivation

How to connect with a child and teach skills within that connection. How to utilize a child’s interests and current skill level to maximize learning

3

Session 3 - Sensory Regulation and
Sensory-Social Routines

Helping parents understand the sensory system and how this impacts behavior. Sharing ideas about activities to support regulation and foster learning

4

Session 4 - Language Development

How to elicit nonverbal communication, functional language, and turn taking.
